I've always been a people-person, a story-person, a drawn to photographs with soft palettes and dreamy imagery-person. My first memories are of that of family stories told by an eclectic group of sinners and saints from Germany, France, and decedents of Native Americas. I remember as a child placing a flower in my grandmothers casket, my brother carrying me. I remember as a 13 year old girl searching the faded headstones in northern KY for family names, reading their inscriptions and wondering how much we had in common.
Story-telling has been in my blood for generations, handed down to me by these wonderers, highwaymen, pioneers, farmers, and believers.
I hail from Ohio, where the corn is high and the spirits pretty low at the moment, but it's also the part of what draws me in to every person (from couples setting forth on this journey together, to the newest little people on Earth, and the older ones who grow up far too quickly) - this midwestern sensibility, where everyone is a friend, a neighbor drives my photography engine; that everyone has a great story to tell, is what echoes though my photography.
I didn't set out to be a wedding or even a newborn photographer. I set out to be a writer, and worked in publishing for a good time, until I felt drawn once again to photography. I minored in fine art photography in college (Ohio State) and came back to it once more when we moved 13 years ago to the Charlotte area from Los Angeles (the story of how we got to NC via LA from Ohio is quite a funny one - ask me about it!)
Over the years I've been a photographer, one thing is pretty clear: story and light ,in the wonder of God's creation, are what speaks to me.
I would love to chat with you about the important moments or people you want to remember. I hope to hear from you soon.
