Last week was a perfect summer maternity session!
I met this stunning mama in Uptown a little ways from my studio and we had an amazing time. June in NC can be extremely hot but we lucked out – it was almost 80 degrees and no rain!! The weather was on point. We went to Uptown Charlotte by a new location I found with pretty clean lines. Cannot wait to photograph their sweet newborn baby girl soon! Here are a few favorite photos from Thursday’s maternity session!
KALEIGH AND BLAKE |MUSEUM OF THE NEW SOUTH WEDDING | CHARLOTTE WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHERS | AMANDA MCQUADE PHOTOGRAPHY
When Kaleigh and Blake first contacted me about their winter Charlotte NC Wedding, I was thrilled. My husband and I were also married in the winter (in Ohio!) so the idea of something outside the norm of weddings in the south really appealed to me.
Winter has this lovely pure pretty light, that tends to not be as harsh as spring and summer. And Kaleigh and Blake really were blessed with some gorgeous Carolina blue skies for their wedding day! With every wedding, there is always the risk of running into bad weather, and my job as a professional wedding photographer is to be prepared for that awful weather (should it come) and thankfully that wasn’t the case with this sweet couples perfect wedding day.
There are so many aspects I loved about this wedding day. I love that all the bridesmaids worn different dresses. I loved all the fur they cozied up in for portraits. I loved Kaleigh’s choice of greenery and elegant decor for their reception at Levine Museum, and I loved the added detail of the Trolley. There were a lot of folks in the wedding party, so it was a wonderful addition to get everyone from point A to B at the same time.
And there were so many lovely people that made this day possible. I want to thank all of you who stepped in for my husband and I at the end there, when emergency circumstances took us out of the wedding for the reception (another blog to follow). It was really TEAM BLACK for these two and I couldn’t be more happy for them!

In recent months, I’ve slowly moved away from in-home newborn sessions (although there are still some awesome ones coming up on the books!) to studio sessions. Now, I know you just thought of a 1990’s J.C. Penny’s studio in your head. You cannot help but picture it. Very dark, heavy, stiff. It’s very difficult to picture what a studio session with me looks like since we are all so conditioned to know that photography studios are suppose to look like that.
And truthfully, some still do! And they are great at that type of moody light studio photography. And while I know how to shoot those types of photography sessions, they aren’t really what I love for newborns.
To me, newborn photography needs to be light, happy, joyful, calm, and photographed in the best possible natural light around. Dreamy. Authentic. Real.
I loved meeting this sweet family for their maternity photography session at one of my favorite local privates homes near Charlotte, NC. It was a warm evening, and we planned to shoot late (about 730pm) to avoid the heat of the day. Lighting was perfect. They were perfect. Cannot wait to meet their new little girl in just a few days!
